"How can those who do not garden, who have no lot in the great fraternity of those who watch the changing year as it affects the earth and its growth,
how can they keep warm their hearts in winter?"

— Francis King

The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, located in Wyoming's largest municipal park, Lions Park, is Wyoming's only public botanic garden. It began in 1977 as the Cheyenne Community Solar Greenhouse. It was one of the nation's first large-scale, solar-heated greenhouses, built by volunteers. The project pioneered a garden that provided therapy and meaningful activity to seniors, youth at risk and handicapped volunteers, a tradition that continues today.
