Compost Area

"One thing that unites all gardeners as they contemplate the compost
heap is a belief in reincarnation, at least for plants."

-Geoffrey Charlesworth

Compost Area

In 2002, thanks to local boy scout, Jeffrey Gorges, the Gardens improved composting bins! With the donation of building materials from Capital Lumber, Jeffrey constructed the bins. Also, a sign was donated by Gordon Signs of Cheyenne.

Composting is a great way to recycle kitchen and yard wastes into a wonderful resource that benefits your yard and garden. Compost enriches garden soil and greatly improves plant growth. Best of all it is free!

By composting you help reduce the pressure on our landfill's limited capacity. Yard wastes comprises up to 25% of the average household's garbage. As a society we can't afford to keep throwing this resource away, especially when it is so helpful to our own yard.
Composting is easy and makes free fertilizer for your plants! If you would like to start your own compost, come by the Gardens and pick up a free copy of “The Composting Companion” brochure.  Come by and see the compost activity area located in the north end of our parking lot on the north side of the garden shed. In Cheyenne you can also purchase compost from our
municipal compost facility. For more information click here.

Our home compost companion brochure is now available on line as a pdf file.
