A Donation Has Been Made in Your Name!!
Over 600
individuals and corporations have contributed to
reach our goal. This summer we will begin
construction on the Children's Garden next to the
Botanic Gardens. Thanks to the generosity of this
community we have reached the lofty goal of raising $1.3 million. There are still many opportunities to be involved
along with many naming rights available. Contact

Garden Tip by Shane Smith
Cleome
Cleome or it's nickname "Spider flower" is a great
tall flower for the annual bed. The term spider
flower is used because
because it creates seed pods that look like it has
long tentacles or spider legs. Because it can reach
up to 6 feet in height it is best planted in the
back of the flower bed in masses separating plants
by about a foot from each other. They create balls
of blossoms almost like a fireworks display. It
comes in white, pink and cherry colors.
Even though cleome grows tall, it usually doesn't need staking
and can tolerate some dryness. You might like a
shorter version called "Sparkler" which only reaches
a maximum of around 4 feet.
Cleome don't really
start blooming in earnest until early July but
do a great show for the following three months.
Always grow them in a bright spot. One of the best
rewards is the occasional hummingbird that will
visit the Cleome.

What does a fruit tree need to get
properly pollinated?
Sometimes fruit trees will not
set fruit because they cannot pollinate themselves and often
need another type of tree to help them set fruit. This link takes the mystery out of fruit tree pollination.
